Abstract
One of the government's programs for building student character is organizing
character education in schools with a school culture-based PPK program. School
culture in implementing character education at the institutional level leads to the
values taught by the school to shape good behavior. The school culture includes
traditions created by the school as a characteristic of the school, daily habits from
the start of school until the end of school, and symbols posted in the school
environment to be practiced by all members of SMP Negeri 1 Sumbang. The aim
of this research is: to analyze the strategies and challenges in implementing the PPK
(Strengthening Character Education) Movement Based on School Culture to
Encourage Students to Have P5 Character at SMP Negeri 1 Sumbang. The method
in this research is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The results of this
research are: the strategy for implementing the PPK Movement (Strengthening
Character Education) Based on School Culture at SMP Negeri 1 Sumbang consists
of eight strategies, namely: 1) familiarizing yourself with the main values; 2)
provide an example among the school community; 3) involving all stakeholders; 4)
establish and comply with school rules and traditions; 5) developing school
branding; 6) develop literacy activities; 7) developing interests, talents and potential
through activities and extracurriculars, and 8) providing mentoring. The challenges
in implementing the School Culture-Based PPK (Strengthening Character
Education) Movement at SMP Negeri 1 Sumbang come from external factors
(parents) where some parents have not fully accustomed their children to school
habits when they are at home. there is the application of religious values and morals
that are neglected to be accustomed to at home as at school, this occurs because
parents lack understanding about the importance of getting used to implementing
religious character education in children. Meanwhile, the solution taken by schools
and teachers is to provide education and cooperative motivation to parents. about
the importance of religious values in children, and discipline in carrying out habits
at school that should be harmonized at home. The conclusion in this research is: the
strategy carried out by SMP Negeri 1 Sumbang in implementing the PKK
Movement includes habituation, literacy and talent and interest development
programs. Meanwhile, the challenges faced by SMP Negeri 1 Sumbang in
implementing the PKK Movement are the lack of education and the role of parents
in implementing the PKK movement.
