Abstract
Background: Sunscreen compounds are substances that contain protective
ingredients from sunlight so that UV rays cannot enter the skin. Cempedak leaves can
be used as natural sunscreen because they contain secondary metabolite compounds
such as steroids, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and tannins that can function to
protect against UV rays. This study aims to determine the effect of carbopol with
concentrations. (0.2g, 0.3g, 0.4g) on sunscreen preparations. Method: Making ethanol
extract of cempedak leaves using the maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent,
the concentration of ethanol extract of cempedak leaves 5g with a difference in
carbopol 940, namely 0.2g, 0.3g, 0.4g. Determination of Standardization using the
method of insoluble ash content in water and acid, Phytochemical screening, and
evaluation of emugel preparations including organoleptic, homogeneity, adhesive
power, pH, viscosity, emulsion type and Spread power. Results: pH test showed that
the 3 formulas had results that were in accordance with the range of 4.5-7.5. The
viscosity test on formula 3 met the viscosity requirements while formulas 1 and 2 did
not meet the viscosity requirements. Emulgel formula 3 contains the highest
concentration of carbopol 940 compared to other formulas. From the test on the
spreadability of the 3 formulas, the most optimal and stable in its spreadability were
formulas 1 and 2, which were in the range of 5-7cm. The adhesion test was replicated
3 times and the results were found in formulation 3 which had a value of >4 seconds.
Conclusion: The preparation of cempedak leaf extract sunscreen emugel obtained
optimal results and met the requirements for good physical stability except for the
optimal adhesion test on formula 3 and the optimal spreadability on formulas 1 and 2.
