The research aimed to describe living attitude of Javanese people on a novel
titled Suti written by Sapardi Djoko Damono. The research object was Javanese
people's living attitude on the novel. Data resources used by the researcher was the
novel titled Suti written by Sapardi Djoko Damono. It was firstly published by
Gramedia in 2015. This research was categorized as an analytic descriptive research.
Using analytic descriptive method, the researcher revealed appeared facts by
explaining the facts properly. Whereas the research approach was sociology of
literature.
The research result showed that living attitude of Javanese people foun in the
novel were: (1) attitude of nrima (accepting) covering; (a) accepting obstacles of life
rationally, (b) accepting anything with no protest, (c) not envy toward other people's
happiness, (d) accepting and adapting life dynamics wisely, (2) attitude of trust, (3)
attitude of patience covering; (a) strong to face life temptation, (b) not rush to
determine a life decision, (c) not easily discouraged, (4) attitude of rila (sincere)
covering; (a) being sincere to give people all of his/her belongings, (b) being sincere
to do everything, (c) ignoring people's rumors, (5) attitude of temen (commitment)
covering; (a) keeping promises, (b) being honest, (6) attitude of nobility covering; (b)
being good-natured, (b) being not discriminative, (c) being humble. The Javanese
people's living attitude in the novel was delivered by the writer through the story,
attitude and behaviour of the characters, theme and story lines.
