Every Indonesian citizen has the right to live in a good and healthy
environment. Governments and communities are responsible for protecting and
managing the environment. Unfortunately, the quality of the environment is
currently declining, due to the low public concern for the environment. An
educational approach to the environment is key to increasing students' awareness
and concern in protecting the environment for a sustainable future. Therefore, the
school is present in the adiwiyata program, this program is very helpful in reducing
and preventing environmental damage that occurs. This study aims to examine
students' environmental awareness, examine the process of the adiwiyata program
in growing students' environmental awareness, and examine students towards the
adiwiyata program at State Junior High School 2 Kesugihan. This research uses a
qualitative approach with a phenomenological type of research. Interviews are
conducted in a semi-structured manner. Transkip interviews were then analyzed
using interpretive phenomenological analysis. There are nine superordinate themes
found: (1) cultivating environmental concern among students and teachers, (2)
environmentally friendly activities in schools: teaching with real practice, (3) the
role of the school community in environmental conservation, (4) integration of
environmental issues in subjects in the school curriculum, (5) environmental action
plan: designing concrete steps towards a sustainable environment, (6)
implementation of environmental activities: Dive into actions for nature
conservation, (7) environmental awareness and responsibility to build a sustainable
attitude in the Adiwiyata program, (8) collaboration and active participation (9)
contribute to maintaining the cleanliness of the school environment. Through this
research, participants conveyed their personal experiences in the process of building
environmentally caring characters.
