Abstract

This research aims to analyze Ahmad Syafi'i Ma'arif's educational
thoughts regarding humanism, liberation, moderation and politics and describe
their relevance to Islamic education.
This research is library research, this writing method uses library research
by collecting data from primary sources of works related to the research theme
and then managing the data with descriptive analysis presented systematically and
objectively.
Liberation thinking and its relevance to Islamic education can be seen
from the central role of education in creating intellectual liberation and deepening
understanding of Islamic values. Humanism education recognizes that every
individual has a wider potential than just intellectual intelligence. Islamic
education underlies this understanding by teaching that every human being is a
caliph on earth, having the duty to develop and protect the environment. Religious
moderation education forms an inclusive and tolerant character. This is in line
with Islamic teachings about tolerance and respecting the individual's right to hold
different views. Ahmad Syafii Maarif believes that political education can provide
a better understanding of the rights and responsibilities as citizens. In the context
of Islamic education, this view also finds its basis in Islamic teachings which
encourage its followers to participate in public affairs (shura) and uphold the
values of justice.
