This research aimed to describe the Javanese cultural elements in Tarian Dua
Wajah novel by S. Prasetyo Utomo. This was descriptive qualitative research and the
objects were the Javanese cultural elements from the novel. This research used
literary anthropology approach and the data included the texts with Javanese cultural
elements taken from the novel. The data were collected using reading and note-taking
technique, then analyzed using data reduction, data display, and verification. The
results showed that the Javanese cultural elements found were:(l) the language of
Central Javanese including (a) Nyai, (b) gagang, (c) sungsang, (d) wangsit, (e)
wingit, (f) ongkos, (g) kembang, (h) Kang, (i) amben;(2) a knowledge system about
flora in the living place including (a) river tamarind leaves, and (b) cogon grass; (3)
the system of technology and living tools including (a) weapons such as sword, spear,
and keris (kris), (b) container such as mortar and kendi (jug), (c) food such as
tumpeng and hot ginger drink; (4). the system of religion which was the belief in the
ancestors including (a) going on a pilgrimage to Nyai Laras' tomb, (b) burning
frankincense and serving offerings; (5) the arts of Central Javanese including (a) the
sound art of game/an, (b) the movement and dance art of dua wajah (two-faced)
dance and Srikandi dance.
