This study aimed to describe the mathematical problem-solving abilities of male and
female students on the topic of Geometry for grade VIII SMP Negeri 1 Kebasen. This
study was qualitative descriptive. The subjects selected students of grade VIII A of
SMP Negeri 1 Kebasen. The sample was selected through purposive sampling,
consisting of 3 students for each group, 3 male students and 3 female students. The
instrument used was a mathematical problem-solving ability test and interviews. Test
validation utilized the technique triangulation. The results discovered that: (1) male
students were able to master 3 steps in mathematical problem-solving ability ;
understanding problems, planning and implementing plans, and (2) female students
were able to master the four steps in mathematical problem-solving ability ;
understanding problems, make plans, implement plans and re-examine the results of
the answers.
