Abstract

This study aimed to determine the perceptions of teachers and students about English
online learning during the covid-19 pandemic in one of the junior high schools in the
city of Banyumas. This research is a descriptive research with the method used is a
survey method. Data was collected through interviews and questionnaires. The data
sources for this study were taken from the English teacher at the school and 50% of the
students from grades seven, eight, and nine. In this study, researchers found that
according to students learning English online during the Covid-19 pandemic received a
positive perception. This can be seen from the percentage of data obtained. The highest
frequency data was obtained in the questionnaire with a percentage of 31% which was
at the agree level. Then, based on the teacher's perception, the implementation of online
learning is indeed good for preventing the transmission of the corona virus, but for
students whose facilities are inadequate, learning will be less effective. From the
findings that have been discussed that students face several obstacles in carrying out
online English learning such as difficulty interacting with teachers and friends, feeling
sleepy and feeling tense, limited facilities, network difficulties, and wasteful quota.
