Abstract

The research, entitled Symptoms of Schizophrenia in the Main Character in
the Persona novel written by Fakhrisina Amalia (A Literature Psychology Study),
aims to describe the symptoms and the causes of schizophrenia experienced by the
main character of Persona novel written by Fakhrisina Amalia. This is qualitative
descriptive research. The data are in the form of texts containing the symptoms and
causes of schizophrenia in the form of sentences and dialogues of the characters

testing the validity of the data. Based on the results of the analysis and discussion, the
following results were obtained. Symptoms experienced by the main character
include: 1) delusions such as suspicion of something that leads to denial and
suspicion of people around her, feeling that her belief is true even though there is
evidence that her belief is wrong, trying to show Altair's presence, not accepting that
her belief is wrong, and Azura has a hard time differentiating between the real and the
unreal; 2) hallucinations such as feeling as if someone greets her, feeling like she is in
another world, Azura seems to feel interacting with Altair's figure, and Azura created
her imaginary figure; 3) asociality, such as loss of interest in hanging out with
friends, so that she is no longer interested in making friends and Azura's inability to
socialize; 4) reduced emotional expression; 5) organized disturbance, namely losing
control of one's own behaviour. The cause of the appearance of schizophrenic
symptoms in the main character of the novel by Fakhrisina Amalia, namely Azura is
unable to adjust to the environment, Azura's chaotic mind, Azura's psyche that is
depressed and shaken, and psychic trauma to bitter and painful memories.
