Abstract
The research entitles Forms of Javanese Culture in Zaman Gemblung
Novel by Sri Wintala Achmad (A Literature Anthropology Study). The research
aims to study and describe forms of Javanese culture in Zaman Gemblung
novel by Sri Wintala Achmad. This research is qualitative descriptive research
using literature anthropology approach. The research data are quotes or
sentences leading to forms of Javanese culture in Zaman Gemblung novel by
Sri Wintala Achmad. Meanwhile, the data source is the text of a novel entitles
Zaman Gemblung by Sri Wintala Achmad. The data collection techniques are
reading and taking notes techniques. The data analysis techniques are data
reduction, data display, verification, and taking a conclusion. The data validity
is checked using technique triangulation with theories.
The research result indicates that there are three cultural forms in
Zaman Gemblung novel by Sri Wintala Achmad, namely: 1) Forms of Javanese
culture as an idea, concept, and so on. Forms of Javanese culture as an idea,
concept, norm, and so on include the concept of macapat (Javanese traditional
poem), living norms/attitudes of Javanese, Javanese poet thought in Serat
Wedhatama, belief in taboo, belief in spirits, the concept of meditating in
Kedung Watu river, the concept of building an invisible fortress, idea of earth
alms, idea of circumcision, idea of holding a shadow puppet show, idea of
doing tirakat (an act of holding back lust) and reciting mantras, idea of
wedding reception, concept of mitoni (a celebration held for seven monthpregnant
women). (2) Forms of Javanese culture in the form of gege shower,
saying the call to prayer, giving names, art, offering nginang (eating betel nut),
meditating, seeing spirits, preparing kenduri (Javanese traditional feast),
wearing Javanese traditional costume, mutual cooperation, circumcision,
shadow puppet show, wedding ceremony, mitoni, playing gamelan, writing
Kalatidha letter. (3) Forms of Javanese culture in the form of objects made by
humans include oil lamps, hanging clock, slepen, kisa (woven bags from
coconut leaves), bamboo divan, kentongan (bamboo-made musical
instruments), cowek (traditional grinder) and Joglo house.
