The purpose of this study was to describe social criticism in the script of the Lakon
Langit Merah by Adhy Pramudya. The type of this research was qualitative research
which sociological literaly approach, namely social criticism as the research
approach. The data used in this research was dialogue that contained social criticism
in the script of the Lakon Langit Merah by Adhy Pramudya. Data in this research
were collected using reading techniques and note-taking techniques. The data were
then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, data verification, and
conclusions. Th result of this study showed that social criticism contained in the
script, namely social criticism, was related to: (1) political problems, including (a)
social criticism of lower-class people who were considered a bully by upper class
people, (b) social criticism of upper class people who acted arbitrarily towards lower
class people, (c) criticism of upper class people who made false promises, (d)
criticism of political interests in order to remain the power, (e) criticism of the power
rank in position, and (f) criticism of greedy upper class people, (2) economic
problems included, (a) criticism of people who lack food, (b) criticism of improper
living conditions, (3) cultural issues included, (a) social criticism of matchmaking, (b)
and social criticism of human responses to reward-tagged competitions, (4) moral
issues included, (a) social criticism of the cruel nature of upper class people, and (b)
social criticism about eliminating the right to life of others, (5) family problems
included, (a) social criticism about parents who limited their children’s rights, and (b)
social criticism about children who did not respect their parents, (6) religious matters.
