Abstract

This study is entitled a descriptive study of critical thinking ability in terms of self-concept on grade 7 excellent students in MTsN 2 Brebes. This study was conducted based on the importance of critical thinking skills to improve the results of intellectual thinking and self-concept who can assess themselves. This study aimed to describe the critical thinking ability of grade 7 students MTsN 2 Brebes in terms of self-concept. A descriptive qualitative method was employed in this study using the Miles and Huberman model which includes data reduction, data display, and concluding. The subjects of this study were grade 7 excellent students in MTsN 2 Brebes. A purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample. This study was taken 2 samples from each category of low, medium, and high self-concept. Self-concept questionnaires, critical thinking ability tests, and interviews were conducted to collect the data. The study results showed that: 1. Students with high self-concept characteristics can master 4 stages of critical thinking skills namely clarification, assessment, inference, strategy, and tactics; 2. Students with medium self-concept characteristics can master 2 stages of critical thinking skills namely clarification and assessment; 3. Students with low self-concept characteristics can master only one stage of critical thinking skills namely clarification.
