Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the numerical recognition abilities of children
aged 3-4 years in the Ar-Rohman group at Umi Maryam Botekan Early Childhood
Education Center, Ulujani, Pamalang, before and after employing the singing
method using Number Symbol Songs. This was a Classroom Action Research
(CAR), involving 7 children as subjects. The data were collected through
test, observations, and field notes and were analyzed descriptively. The findings
indicated that in the initial study, children's proficiency in number recognition
showed that one child (14%) was developing as expected, three children (43%)
were showing initial progress (IP), and three children (43%) had not yet shown
progress (NP). In Cycle I, there was one child (14%) who had not shown progress
(NP), three children (43%) who showed initial progress (IP), two children (29%)
who had progressed as expected (PE), and one child (14%) who had progressed
exceptionally well in number recognition skills. In Cycle II, there was one child
(14%) who showed initial progress (IP), three children (43%) who had progressed
as expected (PE), and three children (43%) who had progressed exceptionally well
in number recognition skills through the singing method. Thus, these results
affirm that singing can enhance children's numerical recognition abilities.
Furthermore, the children's enthusiasm has increased, and the learning process has
become more enjoyable.
