Abstract

This study aimed to improve students’ scientific attitudes and learning achievement through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) –based learning on theme 8 Daerah Tempat Tinggalku for the fourth graders of SD Negeri 2 Tonggara. This type of research was a Kemmis and MC Taggart classroom action research model which was conducted in two cycles. The subjects in this study were grade IV students at SD Negeri 2 Tonggara, totaling 25 students consisted of13 male students and 12 female students. Data collecting instrument used were evaluation tests, teacher activity sheets, students activity sheets, student scientific attitude observation sheets, and students’ scientific attitude questionnaire sheets. The results of the occurred improvements could be observed in each cycle. In cycle I the resultd of observations of scientific attitudes of students obtained on overall percentage value of 40,4 % with unfavorable categories and in the second cycle obtained an overall percentage value of 70% with a good category and the scale results obtained by students who ex5perienced an increase namely from cycle I an average of 3,04 with good criteria and in the second cycle was to 3,58 with very good criteria. Evaluation test results indicated an improvement in students learning achievement from cycle I to cycle II. Learning achievements in the first cycle in natural science lessons obtained an average of 65,84 with a mastery percentage of 65% and in the second cycle to 72,68 with a mastery percentage of 91% in excellent criteria. Bahasa Indonesia subjects obtained an average of 64,08 with a mastery percentage of 59% and in the second cycle were 77,68 with 85% mastery in excellent criteria. The results of this study indicated that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) –based learning was able to improve scientific attitudes and students learning achievements on the theme 8 of DaerahTempat Tinggalku for the fourth graders of SD Negeri 2 Tonggara.
