Abstract
The purpose of this study was to describe metacognition knowledge in solving
mathematical problems of students of SMP Negeri 1 Baturraden in terms of
gender. Metacognition in mathematical problem solving can provide a strong and
fundamental understanding for students. The research method used is descriptive
qualitative. The subjects of this study in class VII C were divided into 2
categories, male and female students. Sampling was done by purposive sampling.
Data collection techniques using test instruments in the form of problem solving
tests and in-depth interviews. This study uses a technical triangulation test as a
validation test of the results. The results showed: female students had mastered
declarative knowledge at the step of understanding the problem, procedural
knowledge on the steps to understanding the problem, making a plan,
implementing the plan and re-examining conditional answers and knowledge in
the step of making a plan and checking the answers. Whereas male students only
master declarative knowledge at the step of understanding the problem,
procedural knowledge in the steps of making plans and implementing plans and
conditional knowledge has not mastered the problem solving steps.
