Abstract
Hypertension is the silent disease and a disease with a high prevalence. Hypertensive patients have been given antihypertensive drugs in the Inpatient Hospital Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo and are advised not to use medicines than those given from the hospital, such as traditional medicine as lowering blood pressure. This study aimed to identify the use of traditional medicine in hypertensive patients hospitalized in hospitals Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo, traditional types of medicines used, the reason for the use of antihypertensive drugs and traditional, as well as the potential interaction of the use of antihypertensive medication and traditional. This study is a prospective descriptive. Sampling is purposive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria during the month of May until June 2016, with the samples obtained as many as 57 respondents. The data collected through a structured interview. The results showed as many as six patients with hypertension (10.53%) use traditional medicine during hospitalization and 51 patients (89.47%) do not use traditional medicine. Based on patients who use traditional medicine, the kind chosen more for accelerating the reduction of blood pressure is the cucumber and squash respectively by 4 respondents (36.36%). The reason that most states use traditional medicines during hospitalization in hospitals Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo is to accelerate the decline in blood pressure. Based on the results of the literature to determine potential interactions between traditional medicine and antihypertensive drugs are no potential interactions between use of the combination of irbesartan and amlodipine with cucumber, while use of antihypertensive drugs and other traditional medicine undiscovered or not there because of the limited database.
