The aim of this study was to find out the effectiveness of comic strips in teaching past
tense at the eight Grade students of SMP PGRI Baturaden. Experiment was used as the
method of the research. Pre test and post test were given to the control and experiment group.
After analyzing the data, the result of the t-test was 6.455 and it was higher than t-table
(6,455>1,671). Moreover, it also showed that there was significant difference between the
students who were taught by using comic strips and those who were taught without comic
strips. It was seen at the post-test score of experimental group, which was higher than the
control group (79,6>68,3). It means that comic strips effective in teaching past tense.
