Abstract
The function of the teeth in the mouth is to chew and tear food. Often the teeth come
into contact with colored food or drinks which can change the color of teeth from
white to yellow or brownish yellow. This can reduce a person's confidence so that
people
have to do tooth bleaching. Bleaching teeth with chemicals will actually
increase tooth decay, one of which is reducing dental hardness. Natural ingredients
from pineapple which have a greater bromelain enzyme are believed to be able to
restore the color
of the teeth to become whiter. This study was conducted
experimentally, knowing that pineapple fruit extracts can be made gel preparations
and can whiten the color of the teeth that have been discolored. Tooth color changes
were seen by measuring the color
of the teeth before and after the gel application
using a guade shade Pineapple fruit was extracted with 96% ethanol to obtain thick
extracts and then to make gel preparations. Gel with the addition of Na lauryl sulfate
is more stable in its storage so it
is chosen for application to the teeth. The results of
the analysis showed that the data was homogeneous but not normally distributed, the
results of ANOVA showed p = 0.806> 0.05, which meant that the data had no
significant differences. The data is conti
nued with Kruskal wallis test. The results
showed that p = 0.911, the data> 0.05 meant that there was no difference between
pineapple fruit extract gel and positive control gel. In table 4.7 p
-
the value obtained
from all treatments was <0.05, the data sh
owed that extracts of 10%, extract gel, and
positive control gel both whitened teeth.
