Abstract
his research was aimed to find out the effectiveness of matching word game
to teach vocabulary. This research was conducted at SMP Muhammadiyah Sumbang
in academic year 201
2
/2013. The total sample of this research was 68 students. The
students
we
re divided into two classes;
VII D and VIIE. VII D w
as as experimental
class that was
taught by matching word game and VIIE was as control class that was
taught by conventional technique. In the collecting data, this study used test pre
-test
and post
-tes
t, which was in the form of multiple choice. Pre
-test was given before the
treatment was done and post
-test was given after the treatment was done.
Based on the result, it was found that matching word game was effective for
teaching vocabulary. It can be seen the result of t-test was 3,409 and t-table at
significance level 0.05 with degree of freedom 66 was 1,668. The t-test was higher
than t-table (3,409 > 1,668). Finally, the hypothesis of this study that matching word
game is effective for teaching vocabulary was accepted.
