Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to find out whether Stop the Bus Game is effective in
teaching vocabulary in Junior School.
The population of this research is the second grade students of MTs Ma’arif NU 1
Patikraja consisting of three classes. The total population is 80. The writer took class B as
experimental class consisting of 27 students and class C as control class consisting of 27
students. The method used is experimental research. The instrument used in this research
is test, pre-test and post-test.
After the data had been analyzed, they showed the vocabulary mean score of pre-test
in experimental class is 43.82, while that of in control class is 44.07. The mean score of
post-test in experimental class is 65.85, while that of in control class is 58.14. The
deviation score in experimental class is 22.03 while that of in control class is 14.07. So,
the deviation in experimental class is higher than that of control class. The t-test result is
4.769 and t-table in df: 52 at the level of significance α=0.05 is 1.673. Thus t-test is
higher than t-table (4.769>1.673). So, the Stop the Bus Game is effective
