Abstract

This research aims at enhancing the writing skills of the tenth grade of TKI
1 of SMK N 1 Banyumas in the academic year 2015/2016 through clustering
technique.This study was a classroom action research. There were pre cycle, cycle
1 and cycle 2. This reseach was conducted in January until February 2016 at SMK
N 1 Banyumas and it involved thirty one students of tenth grade of TKI 1 as
respondents. The instruments that were used in this research were questionnaire,
observation sheets, and writing test. Based on the result of the research, the
implementation of clustering technique in teaching recount text had shown an
improvement. In the result of test 2, it gained 31 students or 100% who passed
minimum passing grade criteria (KKM) or they gained minimum 75 for their
writing. On the other hand, the students‟ responses towards clustering technique
were positive. The mean of pre questionnaire 28.39% and the post questionnaire
92.58%. The improvement of the students‟ responses towards clustering technique
was gained 64.19%. In short students‟ responses to learn recount text through
clustering technique were positive. In addition, the use of clustering technique was
able to improve the students‟ interest, and motivation toward the teaching and
learning process. Based on these findings, it could be concluded that the
implementation of clustering technique improved students‟ writing skill of tenth
grade of TKI 1 of SMK N 1 Banyumas.
