Abstract

The study was aimed at finding out the correlation between learning styles
and students’ participation in scientific approach implementation. The method used
was descriptive which focused on finding the correlation between the variables. The
sample of the research was the tenth grade students in one of senior high schools in
Purwokerto. The techniques for collecting data were questionnaire, observation, and
interview. Questionnaire was to identify learning styles, observation was to know
students’ participation in the classroom, and interview was to clarify the
questionnaire result. The results of questionnaire and observation were converted into
percentage. It was revealed that 46.3% of students were visual learners, 34.9% of
students were auditory learners, and 18.7% of students were kinaesthetic learners.
Furthermore, visual learners were better than auditory learners in listening to the
teacher. Auditory learners were better than kinaesthetic learners in presenting or
practicing. In short, type of learners did not affect how students participate in the
teaching learning process and there was no correlation between learning styles and
students’ participation.
