This research entitled “Review on Verb and Meaning of Prefixed Verb ber- in
Short Stories by Students at SMP Negeri 2 Purwokerto” aimed to describe the form
and meaning prefixed verb ber- used in the sentences on 7th grade students‟ short story
discourse in SMP Negeri 2 Purwokerto.
The data in this research were prefixed verbs ber- in the sentences on 52
students‟ short story discourse in SMP Negeri 2 Purwokerto. The data sources were 52
short stories from class VIIA (26) and VIIB (26). The method used in this research
was distributional method by using immediate constituent analysis and then followed
by identity method. Data supply phase in this research used simak method, tapping
technique the analyzed data then presented by formal and informal presentation model
using common words to simplify the presented materials.
Based on the analysis it could be concluded that the form of prefixed berconsisted
of ber- form, be- form, bel- form. The meaning of prefixed verb berobtained
in analysis result were 12 meanings namely: (1) possessive meaning as the
basic form, (2) utilizing something as the basic form, (3) doing and conducting
something, (4) obtaining or producing something, (5) in a state mentioned in basic
form, (6) containing assemblage meaning, (7) reflective meaning, (8) reciprocal
meaning, (9) being in basic form, (10) doing something, (11) expelling something as
basic form and (12) giving something as basic form. Prefixed verb ber- may attach on
basic form in verb category, adjective, and numeral category.
