Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of arranging letters game for teaching vocabulary. This research was conducted at SMP N 7 Purwokerto in academic years 2010/2011.
Experiment research was carried out on October to November 2010. The method of this research was quasi experiment especially non- equivalent. The total sample was 66 respondents. The respondents were divided into two classes; class A as an experiment class and class B as a control one. For collecting the data, the writer used test as an instrument. The test was done twice, the first was pre-test and the second was post-test. After getting the data the writer used t-test to analyze the data collected.
Based on the result, it was found that arranging letters game was effective for teaching vocabulary especially at first grade students of SMP N 7 Purwokerto. It could be seen from t-test result which was 2.481 and the value of t-table with the degree of freedom 64 was 1.669. Since t-test was higher than t- table (2.481>1.669). So it could be concluded that arranging letters game was effective for teaching vocabulary.
