The aims of this research were (1) to find out how good the students
ability in using conjunction in writing, (2) to know the most errors made by
students in using conjunction in writing.
This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Pengadegan,
Purbalingga in academic year 2009/2010. The sample of this research was 35
students. The research method used in this research was descriptive method. The
data were collected using test in the form of completion test and making sentences
based in the conjunction given.
After the data had been analyzed, it was found that the students’ ability
in using conjunctions in writing belonged to good category (75% for completion
test) and fair category (72, 21% for making sentences test). It was also found that
the students made errors in using some conjunctions. Those conjunctions were
“for” (80% of students answered wrong), “nor” (73, 3% of students answered
wrong), “whenever” (71% of students answered wrong) and in completion test.
The students still made errors in using “yet” (86% of students answered wrong),
“for” (82 of students answered wrong), “nor” (80% of students answered
wrong), “as” (71, 4% of students answered wrong), and “whenever” (70 of
students answered wrong) in making sentence test.
