A figure leading and managing a primary school management is terminologically named a headmaster for public primary schools or a headmaster of Madrasa for Islamic primary schools. The headmaster has to own managerial strategies for optimizing his/her academic staffs to achieve goal of the school. The researcher conducted a research titled “The Performance of An Islamic Primary School Headmaster in Improving Quality of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Muhammadiyah (MIM) Pasirmuncang”. It was considered due to increase of student body, improvement of students‟ achievement, and managerial betterment achieved by the school during last three years.
It was a qualitative research with descriptive approach since the researcher directly collected data from data resources. It aimed to know the headmaster‟s performance in improving the school quality. Technique of data collection was done with observation and documentation. Whereas data analysis was conducted in four phases; they are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion.
The research result shows performance of the Headmaster is implemented in six indicators: personality and social, leadership of academics or learning, school development, management of resources, entrepreneurship and learning supervision. The headmaster‟s professionalism is implemented in four competencies. They are personal, social, pedagogic, and professional competencies. The headmaster does her duties as an educator, manager, administrator, supervisor, leader, entrepreneur, and climate maker. The performance and professionalism of headmaster is able to improve the school quality properly. The headmaster implements her leadership strategy charismatically and democratically.
