Abstract
This research was aimed to investigate the students‟ perceptions and expectations
of Lexical Study 1 teaching at Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto. It used
descriptive survey study. The population was 120 first semester students of
English Education Department of Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto. The
samples of the research were 24 students. The technique of data collection used
were questionnaire and interview. The results showed that the students‟
perception was in the scale of 4.005, which could be categorized into very good;
the teaching was interactive, the lecturer engaged the students to be active in a
classroom, for example: asking questions and giving the responses, having
discussion session, and having presentation in every meeting. Meanwhile, the
students‟ expectations of Lexical Study 1 teaching were (1) media; the media used
should be more interesting, so the students will have high-motivation to learn
vocabulary, (2) practice; it needs something like discussions with the native
speaker to improve the students‟ vocabulary, (3) facility; the facility should be
developed to get an outstanding students‟ outcome. It could be concluded that the
students had positive perception of the Lexical Study 1 teaching.
