Abstract

This research aims to analyze how social interactions during communal lunch can serve as a means of developing religious and disciplined character in students.SD Muhammadiyah Banyumas is a school that prioritizes character education. One of SD Muhammadiyah Banyumas' programs to enhance character education is through a communal lunch activity. Lunch is conducted according to standard operating procedures established by the school. This activity is carried out by students from grades 1 to 6, accompanied by their respective class teachers. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques
involving observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the habit of having communal lunch on a regular basis has a positive impact on the formation of students' character. Students' religious character is formed through habits such as praying together before and after meals, maintaining cleanliness, and eating with manners that align with Islamic values. Disciplined character is evident in students' attitudes, such as queuing, following the set meal schedule, and being responsible for tidying up eating utensils. Teachers, parents, and catering services play strategic roles in supporting the success of this program. Although this program has been successful in shaping students' character, several obstacles have been identified, such as diverse food
preferences among students, less supportive eating habits at home, and limited facilities. To overcome these challenges, the school has taken various strategic steps, such as providing relevant nutrition education, involving students in menu planning, and improving the quality of lunch facilities. The conclusion of this study is that social interactions in the practice of communal lunch can be an
effective means of holistically improving students' religious and disciplined character education. This program can serve as an inspiring model for other schools to integrate character education into daily activities.
