This study focuses on discourse, specifically the building description texts
in Asrinesia Magazine, Issue No. 30, 2023. The study aimed to describe the types
of cohesion and coherence available in the descriptions of two buildings featured
in the February 2023 issue of Asrinesia Magazine. It was a qualitative descriptive.
The research subjects were sentences in the building description texts of Asrinesia
Magazine, Issue No. 30, February 2023. The objects of the study were the markers
of various types of cohesion and coherence used in the magazine. Data collection
was carried out using a reading and noting technique. The primary instrument for
this research was the researchers themselves, based on knowledge of theories
regarding markers of cohesion and coherence. This instrument was implemented
with criteria that facilitate data analysis, supported by data cards. The research
method used was qualitative descriptive. The researcher collected data in the form
of magazines with building description texts. The study's results were as follows:
grammatical cohesion included reference, substitution, ellipsis, and conjunction.
Lexical cohesion included repetition, synonyms, antonyms, hyponyms, and
equivalence. Coherence included additive relations, sequential relations,
adversative relations, comparative relations, causal relations, utility relations, and
explanatory relations.
