Abstract
Background : Hyperuricemia is a condition where uric acid levels increase
beyond normal limits. One therapy commonly used for hyperuricemia is
Allopurinol. Allopurinol has side effects that can be caused by long-term use,
namely it can cause digestive disorders such as gastrointestinal (nausea, vomiting
and diarrhea). However, now there are nanosuspension preparations that can be
formulated with herbal medicines which can reduce the dose and adverse side
effects. and can increase bioavailability. Bay leaf (Syzzygium polyynthum) is a
plant that has properties for treating hyperuricemia because of its flavonoid
content. Method: Nanosuspension formulation was carried out for 3 formulas
containing bay leaf extract with the stabilizer polyvinyl alcohol (F1), Tween 80
(F2), polyvinyl alcohol+Tween 80 (F3). Antihyperuricemia test on male white
Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups (negative control, positive control,
nanosuspension F1, nanosuspension F2, nanosuspension F3). Results : Of the
three formulas based on organoleptic tests, they have clear characteristics and no
sediment, pH test 6.2 ± 0.0130, viscosity test 2.68 ± 0.183, particle size 354.6 ±
173.167, polydispersity index 0.487 ± 0.152, zeta potential -18 .6 ± 2.223, and the
antihyperuricemia test decreased to 3.96 mg/dL. Conclusion : The F3 bay leaf
extract nanosuspension preparation with PVA stabilizer and Tweem 80 was able
to provide good results in organoleptic, viscosity, pH, particle size and
antihyperuricemia effectiveness tests.
