Low learning independence can lead to poor academic performance among
students. Several factors affect a student's ability to develop their skills,
including learning motivation and internal drive, which affect their enthusiasm
and effort in achieving academic goals. Family social support involves
providing advice, motivational encouragement, and decision-making guidance
to help students succeed academically. This study aims to examine the effects
of family social support and learning motivation on learning independence
among 8th-grade students at SMP N 3 Slawi, Tegal Regency. A quantitative
approach with regression analysis was used, employing scales for learning
independence, family social support, and learning motivation. The sampling
technique utilized simple random sampling with a sample size of 159 students.
Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression with SPSS
software. The results indicated a significant effect of family social support on
learning independence with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p<0.05) and an
F-value of 4.012. Additionally, learning motivation significantly impacted
learning independence with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p<0.05) and an
F-value of 5.020. The combination of family social support and learning
motivation also showed a significant effect on learning independence with an
F-value of 3.398, t = 7.401, and a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05), with an R-squared
value of 0.042, indicating that family social support and learning motivation
contribute 4.2% to learning independence among 8th-grade students at SMP N
3 Slawi.
