Abstract
Character education is always an interesting topic to discuss. The increasing number of deviant character phenomena is of particular concern to all of us. School is one of three educational centers that plays a role in guiding and directing students. In this case, schools need a school culture. School culture in forming students’ religious character is one way for students to have personality, intelligence, noble morals and skills based on religious values. The aim of this research is to determine the role of school culture in the formation of students' religious character at Muhammadiyah Sokaraja Middle School and the factors that influence the role of school culture in the formation of students’ religious character at Muhammadiyah Sokaraja Middle School.
This research is qualitative research with the type of field research and uses data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. The data sources used are primary data and secondary data. The data analysis techniques used are reducing data, presenting data and verifying.
The results of this research show that the role of school culture in the formation of students’ religious character at Muhammadiyah Sokaraja Middle School is that religious character is formed such that students are accustomed to saying greetings, praying before and after studying, carrying out religious services such as midday prayers, midday prayers, Friday prayers, Friday prayers, and so on, students have an attitude of loving peace, cooperation, maintaining cleanliness, loving the environment, tolerant, maintaining purity by knowing the boundaries of the opposite sex, trusting, brave, and loving friendship. The factors that influence the implementation of the role of school culture in the formation of students’ religious character at Muhammadiyah Sokaraja Middle School are the environment consisting of the family environment, school environment and community environment, students’ personalities, the system or SOP used, as well as technology and information.
