The study aims to describe the function of expressive illocutionary acts in the
characters' utterances in the film "Mimpi Ananda Raih Semesta" by Sahrul Gibran.
This research uses qualitative and descriptive methods. The data used in this study
are the characters' utterances in the film "Mimpi Ananda Raih Semesta" by Sahrul
Gibran, which contains types of expressive illocutionary acts. The data source in
this research is the characters in the film "Mimpi Ananda Raih Semesta" by Sahrul
Gibran. This study employs three stages: data collection, data analysis, and
presentation of the analysis results. The data collection techniques used in this
research include watching, uninvolved conversational observation, and notetaking.
The data analysis involves three stages: data reduction, data presentation,
and conclusion drawing. The analysis results are presented informally. Based on
the data analysis conducted, nine functions of expressive illocutionary acts were
found in the utterances of characters in the film "Mimpi Ananda Raih Semesta" by
Sahrul Gibran, including 2 expressions of gratitude, 1 expression of
congratulations, 3 apologies, 2 greetings, 6 compliments, 3 expressions of wellwishing,
3 refusals, 4 requests for help, and 5 criticisms. The most prominent
expressive function found was compliments, totaling 6 utterances. This prominence
is attributed to the character Sekar, a smart child receiving a scholarship to Oxford
University, leading to the dominance of the expressive function of compliments in
the film.
