Abstract

Online gaming addiction among university students can often stem from a lack of
activities following class hours. This behavior can persist through to the final
assignment phase, where stress from completing tasks leads to online gaming
becoming an escape mechanism to find enjoyment amidst academic pressures. One
of the negative impacts of online gaming addiction is the inability to control
emotions, resulting in frustration when the game does not progress smoothly. Selfmanagement
is necessary as a form of support to help students better manage
themselves. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of self-management
on the tendency of online gaming addiction among students at Universitas
Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. This research uses a quantitative method with an
accidental sampling technique, resulting in a sample size of 100 respondents. The
research instruments utilized were questionnaires with self-management and online
gaming addiction scales. The results showed a significance value of 0.000, which
is less than 0.05, indicating that self-management significantly affects the tendency
of online gaming addiction. This study demonstrates that self-management has an
impact on the tendency toward online gaming addiction among students at
Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto.
