Abstract
The term power has been used in a large area that is usually referenced to the
institution, and class structure. However, power can come from anybody because
power does not have an ownership that can be taken of a certain people,
community, or group (Foucault, 1982). This study examines the power relations
among the characters in the biopic movie, Iron Lady. The data of this research is
from the dialogues and narration. Furthermore, power relations in this movie are
found between Thatcher and other characters: her family, the House of
Commons Speaker, the US Secretary of State, and Cabinet Minister. This research
used the qualitative-descriptive method. In this film, the researcher discovered
15 data on Foucault’s power relationship. This research uses a sociology of
literature as the approach. This study's results discovered four important points
of power relations in the movie: the forms of institutionalization, the system of
differentiations, the types of objectives, and instrumental modes.
