“An Analysis of Teacher Using Brainstorming in Teaching
English ”
(An Descriptive Study of SMAN 2 Purwokerto in Academic Year
2015/2016)

ABSTRACT
This research was aimed at knowing the types of brainstorming that are used by the
teacher and the teacher’s reason in using brainstorming in teaching English. It used
descriptive design where the subject of the research were English teacher in SMAN 2
Purwokerto. The data was analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis. There were
4 steps in analyzing the data which were (1) collecting data, (2) reducing data, (3)
displaying data, (4) making conclusion/ verification. Based on the analysis, there
were two types of brainstorming used by teachers. They were brainstorming using
picture (40%) and brainstorming using guessing (60%). The teacher’s reason used
picture in their brainstorming was that the students still love pictures and it only takes
a few time. Meanwhile the reason of the teacher who applied guessing in their
brainstorming was that they want to explore the student’s speaking skill so they can
interact with other students inside or outside the class using English.
