Abstract
The "Developing English Contextual Workbook for the Seventh-Grade” research
is development research (R & D). The study was conducted in SMP Al Irsyad Al
Islamiyyah Purwokerto. This research aims to develop an English Contextual
Workbook for seventh-grade students in SMP Al Irsyad Al Islamiyyah Purwokerto,
to measure the validity of the developed workbook based on experts’ judgment, and
to describe the teachers’ responses to the developed workbook. The procedures to
produce the English contextual workbook are a) the analysis stage, b) the design
stage, c) the development stage, and e) the evaluation stage. Based on experts’
validity, the developed workbook is valid and eligible to be used for teaching
seventh-grade students. The validity is achieved after some validations. The first
validation results required some revisions, and the second met the standard.
Teachers' responses to English contextual workbooks are positive, 85% from
English teacher I and 88% from English teacher II. It is categorized as “very good”
according to the Likert Scale. In conclusion, the English contextual workbook is
very feasible to use.
