Abstract

This study aimed to describe the types of presuppositions discovered in the utterances of hosts and speakers in Comedy Sunday on YouTube's May 2022 edition. The research design employed was qualitative descriptive with a literature review analyzing the utterances of hosts and speakers in Comedy Sunday on YouTube's May 2022 edition containing presuppositions. Data collection in this study utilized the observation method with basic recording techniques and advanced techniques, namely observation nonparticipatory and note-taking techniques. The data analysis method applied was distributional and matching analysis. Subsequently, the presentation of the data results employed an informal method. After analyzing the utterances of hosts and speakers in 4 videos, various types of presuppositions were identified based on Yule's theory. The researcher identified two existential presuppositions, four factual presuppositions, six non-factual presuppositions, 15 lexical presuppositions, three structural presuppositions, and six counterfactual presuppositions. From the data summary, the researcher concluded that lexical presuppositions obtained the highest number of utterance data, amounting to 15, dominating the findings as the most prevalent type of presupposition in the utterances of hosts and speakers in Comedy Sunday's May 2022 edition.
