Abstract

The research titled "Types and Functions of Directive Illocutionary Speech Acts in Indonesian Language Learning for Grade X at SMA Negeri 3 Purwokerto in the Academic Year of 2022-2023" aims to describe the forms and functions of directive illocutionary speech acts in Indonesian language learning for Grade X at SMA Negeri 3 Purwokerto. This descriptive research was conducted at SMA Negeri 3 Purwokerto, Banyumas, Central Java. The data consisted of the utterances of teachers and students containing directive illocutionary speech acts during Indonesian language learning. The data sources were 2 teachers and 144 students from Grade X E1 and X E2 taught by Siti Dwi Rohani, S.Pd., and Grade X E10 and X E11 taught by Endah Nurul Hidayati, S.Pd., who are currently conducting Indonesian language learning in Grade X at SMA Negeri 3 Purwokerto. This research consisted of three stages: (1) data collection, using techniques such as basic techniques: tapping technique, advanced technique: Observation Nonparticipatory Technique (SLBC), recording technique, and note-taking technique, (2) data analysis, using methods such as distributional method with basic technique for Immediate Constituent elements and advanced technique: substitution, and pragmatic equivalent method with dividing-key-factors technique and advanced technique: interrelational technique, (3) data presentation, using informal presentation. Based on the data analysis, the results of this research reveal that the types of directive illocutionary speech acts include 16 data of request, 100 data of question, 36 data of command, 10 data of prohibition, 16 data of permission, and 6 data of advice. Meanwhile, the functions of directive illocutionary speech acts found in this research include 12 speech acts of "requesting, 5 speech acts of inviting, 99 speech acts of asking, 1 speech act of urging, 19 speech acts of ordering, 1 speech act of commanding, 10 speech acts of instructing, 5 speech acts of demanding, 6 speech acts of limiting, 4 speech acts of forbidding, 4 speech acts of agreeing, 12 speech acts of allowing, 2 speech acts of advising, 1 speech act of suggesting, and 3 speech acts of warning
