Abstract

The aim of this research is to increase the character value of tolerance in
students through social studies learning using the role playing method.
This research is a qualitative descriptive study with a Role Playing method
approach with several steps, namely: 1. The teacher prepares a scenario that will
be displayed, 2. The teacher forms a group of students, 3. The teacher explains
how to act out the scenario that has been created, 4. Students observe and
understand the scenario. 5. Finish showing students working on LJK, 6. Students
present the conclusions written in LJK, 7. Teacher provides reflection.
The cultivation of the character of tolerance is carried out, bearing in mind
that this nation needs better development in the future. Cultivating the character of
tolerance can begin by getting to know, understanding and appreciating the local
culture around you. Education that is based on strong cultural principles will
ensure that students are not easily influenced by external culture, so that they are
able to determine whether or not the external culture is acceptable to them. One
way that can be done is by using the Role Playing meltode.
Based on the results of observations and interviews, it was found that
through the Role Playing method, students' tolerance character in social studies
learning increased. Activities to strengthen the tolerance character in schools can
be concluded that efforts to increase student tolerance are considered very
effective in developing students' tolerance character. It is hoped that this Role
Playing method can be implemented successfully. By being polite and effective,
we are able to develop students' tolerance character in a holistic way from various
activities in the school.
