Abstract
This was a literature study about CALLA(The Cognitive Academic Language
Learning Approach) and Pop Up Book media based on the improvement of
reading interest in primary school. The data used were secondary data by
collecting related journals which were then read and analyzed using the step of
organizing, synthesizing, and identifying. CALLA and Pop Up Book media are
some of the alternatives that can be used by teachers to improve students' reading
interest. It includes three main components in the learning process which are prereading,
reading, and post-reading. Each component has the steps of a learning
process that are applied sustainably. Pop Up Bookmedia is used on the step of
reading as the reading material for all subjects. It can also attract students'
attention due to its unique shape and 3D effects. Moreover, it gives a concrete
description related to the abstract materials which can give a clearer and easier
understanding to the students. The making of Pop Up Book media is easy and can
be done digitally and manually. The results of this study showed the effects on the
students reading interest. It could be seen from many learning theories that
supported CALLA and Pop Up Book media to improve students' reading interest
in the primary school because both of them completed each other.
