Abstract

This research aimed to describe the level of hegemony in the Laut Bercerita
novel by Leila S. Chudori. The data in this study are texts in the form of words,
sentences, or expressions that contain a level of hegemony in the Laut Bercerita
novel by Leila S. Chudori. The approach used was the sociology of literature
approach. Data collection techniques in this study used reading techniques and
noting techniques. Data analysis techniques in this research include (1) data
reduction, (2) data presentation, and (3) data verification. The results related to the
level of hegemony were: (1) total hegemony which included: Hegemony of the head
of the organization to its members; (2) declining hegemony which included: (a) the
hegemony of the ruling leader against student activists, (b) the hegemony of the
ruling leader against the citizens of Kedung Ombo, (c) the hegemony of the ruling
leader against political prisoners, (d) the hegemony of the ruling leader against the
people of Blangguan village, (e) the hegemony of the ruling leader against the
figure Bapak (Father) ; (3) minimum hegemony which included: (a) the hegemony
of the ruling leader who is opposed by student activists, (b) the hegemony of the
ruling leader who was opposed by lecturers and deans of Gajah Mada University,
(c) the hegemony of the ruling leader who was opposed by the families of the victim
activists, (d) the hegemony of the ruling leader who was opposed by Kontras
Institute (commission for missing persons and victims of violence).
