Abstract

The term of productive skills according to Harmer (2007) is the language skills where the students produce the language themselves. The language skills that are categorized into productive skills are speaking and writing. As times goes by, there are changes happening rapidly in the education field, and this has an impact on what students learn which used technology. Technologies require us to rethink how we teach and learn, in order to improve the learning process. One of the innovation learning in this area is called by hybrid learning. This research was aimed at knowing the teachers’ challenges and strategies in teaching productive skills in a hybrid learning context. This is a case study in which the data from the field was analyzed descriptively. Three English teachers participated in this research. The result of the observation and interview showed that the teacher faced some challenges in teaching writing skills in a hybrid learning such as controlling the students’ writing activity, providing material, dividing groups, giving feedback, doing assessment, and students’ lack motivation. On the other hand, the challenges that the teachers faced in teaching speaking skills in a hybrid learning are, controlling the students’ speaking activity, providing material, giving feedback, doing assessment, and students’ lack motivation. Furthermore, the strategies that the teachers used in teaching writing skills are using Quizziz and chat box on google meet, sending material through the google classroom, creating WhatsApp group for grouping, revising consecutively, using Canva, and giving additional points while in teaching speaking asking the students consecutively, sending the material through google classroom, giving feedback directly, sending voice note or video and giving motivation and appreciation as their strategies in a hybrid learning.
