Abstract

This study attempts to develop an OREO Plus as a model of teaching reading for
the ninth-grade students of secondary school. This model is expected to be able to make
the reading learning process more meaningful, enjoyable and efficient. Through this model,
the objectives of teaching and learningreading in class nine will be achieved. This study
employs Research and Development as the research method with ADDIE (Analysis,
Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) phases. Interviews with teachers, Experts’
Judgement and Questionnaires are used to gather the data. The research participants are
teachers’ of English of secondary schools in Banjarnegara Regency.. This study has
successfully developed a model of teaching reading which is called OREO Plus model.
This model of teaching has been validated by the three language experts. The result of the
the expert validation indicatedthat the model of teaching has met the criteria of good and
applicable model of teaching reading seeing from some indicators of validation, those are
represents the scientific approach (2.88), fulfills the challenge of 21st century skills (2.94)
and support the activities of reading comprehension (2.80). The OREO Plus model helped
the teachers to teach reading in the way it provides more relevant syntax or teaching
procedures that met the students’ logic of thinking and the scientific teaching approach as
mandated in curriculum 2013. Teachers’ response toward the OREO plus model is also
positive which means that the teachers believe that this model will assist them to teach
reading and also help the students to understand the reading much better.
