Abstract
This is a classroom action research that was conducted due to the low participation and learning achievement of students. The purpose of this study was to increase the participation and learning achievement of students on the theme of 7 The Beauty of Diversity in My Country through the talking chips cooperative learning model. This classroom action research used a class action research cycle model of Kemmis and Mc Taggart which was carried out in two cycles in which each cycle consisted of two meetings with research procedures in each cycle including planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects in this study were students of class IV C SD Negeri 2 Purwokerto Lor, East Purwokerto District, Banyumas Regency with a total of 19 students consisting of 8 female students, and 11 male students. The data in this research were obtained from observation sheets of student learning participation, teacher activities, student activities, and evaluation tests conducted at the end of each meeting. Data on the results of the increase that occurred can be seen in each cycle. The results of the average score and the percentage of successful participation of students in the first cycle were in the good criteria and the average score and the percentage of successful participation of students in the second cycle were in very good criteria. According to the results of both cycles, it can be seen that there was an increase in the learning participation of students. The results of the evaluation test showed an increase in the learning achievement of students from cycle I to cycle II. In cycle I, sub-theme 1, students obtained an average score in good criteria and the percentage of completeness in learning was included in the sufficient criteria, while in cycle II, sub-theme 2 obtained an average score in the very good criteria and the percentage of completeness was in the very good criteria. To conclude, the increase that occurred in cycle I to cycle II indicates that the implementation of the talking chips type cooperative learning model on theme 7, the beauty of diversity in my country, sub-theme 1 and sub-theme 2 can increase the participation and learning achievement of students in grade IV SD Negeri 2 Purwokerto Lor in the school year 2019/2020.
