Research on the development of poetry writing teaching materials based on character education is motivated by the absence of Indonesian language learning media that can help students write poetry. In addition, the difficulty of students in determining the theme of the poem to be made is also a fundamental problem in the research. The development of poetry writing teaching materials aims to: 1) Develop poetry writing learning products with poetry writing teaching materials in class VIII SMP N 1 Karangmoncol, 2) Explain the results of the attractiveness of poetry writing teaching materials in learning to write poetry in class VIII SMP N 1 Karangmoncol, 3) Knowing the results of the effectiveness of using teaching materials to write poetry based on character education in class VIII students of SMP N 1 Karangmoncol. To achieve the above objectives, educational research is used with the type of Research and Development (R&D) research using two types of data, namely quantitative data and qualitative data. The development of this learning media refers to the Borg and Gall model using six steps in its development. The results of developing poetry writing teaching materials based on character education meet the valid criteria with the results of the material expert test reaching a validity level of 87.5%, media design experts reaching a validity level of 80.55%, and learning experts reaching a validity level of 83.33%. The main field trial reached a level of validity of 86.25% which showed that teaching materials for learning to write poetry based on character education were effective and interesting. The advice given based on the results of the development of teaching materials for learning to write poetry based on character education is the existence of research on the development of teaching materials about learning literary works other than poetry such as prose and rhymes.
