This study aimed to describe the mathematical representation abilities and self-confidence of the eighth-gradestudents of SMP Negeri 1 Sokaraja. This type of research was descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this studywere students of grade VIII A in SMP Negeri 1 Sokaraja that were selected by purposive sampling. The data werecollected through written tests, questionnaires, and interviews. Based on the results, the research resultsdiscovered that: 1) Students with high achievement groups had high self-confidence so that students were able topresent data or information back into diagrams, solve problems involving mathematical symbols, and involvewritten words/texts in solving problems. 2) Students with moderate achievement groups obtained quite highself-confidence so that students were able to present data or information back into diagrams and solve problemsby involving written words/texts, 3) Students with low achievement groups had low self-confidence so thatstudents were only able to present data or information back into diagrams.
