Abstract

This study aimed to describe the analysis of objective and subjective test
items for reading comprehension skills in grade VII of SMP Negeri 3 Kalibagor.
It was a descriptive quantitative study. The populations were all students of grade
VII of SMP N 3 Kalibagor as many as 224 students who were divided into 7
classes. The samples were taken by using a simple random sampling (simple
random sampling technique). The samples were 25% of the total population. The
quality of the test items could be seen from the validity level of each item. In the
multiple-choice test items, 72% of test items were valid and 28% of test items
were invalid. In true-false test items, 90% of test items were valid and 10% of test
items were invalid. All matchmaking test items (100%) were valid. The objective
and subjective test items had a high level of reliability. The quality of the test
items could be seen from the level of difficulty. In multiple-choice test items, 4% of
items were difficult, 32% of items were medium, and 64% of items were easy.
There were 32% of test items were in the poor category and 68% of test items
were in the sufficient category. In true-false test items, 20% of items were
medium, and 20% of items were easy. There were 10% of test items in the poor
category, 60% of test items in the sufficient category, and 30% of test items in the
good category. In matchmaking test items, 4% of items were medium, and 16% of
items were easy. All the matchmaking test items (100%) were in a good category.
The quality of the test items could be seen from the effectiveness of distractors.
There were 8 test items (32%) were poor, 12 test items (48%) were less good, and
5 test items (20%) were good. Analysis of objective (multiple-choice, true-false,
match-making) and subjective (essay) test items can be applied to reading
comprehension skills.
