Abstract

This research is aimed at: (1) formulating the need of teaching materials in writing drama text of South Brebes folklore with a contextual approach for grade VIII of junior high school; (2) developing teaching materials that are suitable to the needs of teachers and students; (3) determining students' responses to the teaching materials; (4) knowing the quality of teaching materials based on the results of expert validation; (5) determining the effectiveness of the use of the teaching materials.
The method used in this research is the Research and Development. Furthermore, the model of development used in this research is the ADDIE (Analysis-Design-Develop-Implement-Evaluate). The stages of this research method include (1) analysis of the need for teaching materials according to teachers and students; (2) development of initial products; (3) validation by expert and revision; (4) small-scale field trials using the experimental research method with the design of Paired T Test, Normality test, and homogeneity test. To determine the module's suitability, the results of the five-scale questionnaire is interpreted. The results show that; (1) the idea of the need for teaching materials according to the teacher and students receives a good response; (2) assessment (expert response) regarding the content of the material gets a score of 39.00 with a very good category from expert validator, and a score of 33.00 with a good category from the Indonesian language teacher. Language assessment carried out by expert validator obtains a score of 20.00 with excellent category, and a score of 16.50 with the good category by the Indonesian language teacher. Presentation assessment conducted by expert validator receives a score of 44.00 with excellent category and a score of 38.50 with excellent category from the Indonesian language teacher a. Graphic assessments conducted by expert validator gets a score of 24.00 with excellent category and a score of 20.00 with good category from Indonesian language teachers; (3) A limited scale assessment by students (student response) in the aspects of the feasibility of the material shows an average score of 0.50 with a very good category, in the aspect of linguistic an average score of 16.90 with a very good category, in the aspect of presentation an average score of 57.70 with a very good category, in the aspect of graphic an average score of 17.60 with a very good category. Furthermore, it is also known that the post-test data shows a learning completeness of 100%, and the average score of the data is 89.8 with the percentage of learning completeness of 80%. In other words, there is an average increase of 30.7;(4) the module is proven to be effective after being tested in the experimental class and the control class as the t value of the experimental class is greater than the t value of the control class (19.030> 18.573). The experimental class has more improvement than the control one. Therefore, it can be concluded that learning with the module is more effective than the conventional learning. In addition, it can improve the ability to write drama texts as shown by experimental class students with the post-test improvement of 75.9 and percentage of learning mastery of 56.25%.
