This study aims to describe the mathematical problem-solving ability of
students at SMPN 3 Satu Atap Ayah based on brain dominance. This research
uses qualitative research. Data collection uses questionnaires, tests, interviews and
documentation. Data analysis techniques using the model of Milles and Huberman
which includes data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The subjects in
this study were students of class VIII A SMPN 3 Satu Atap Ayah. Students are
grouped into 2 groups based on brain dominance, namely the group of students
dominating the left brain and the group of students dominating the right brain.
Each group was selected by 3 respondents using a purposive sampling technique.
Based on the results of the study it was found that 1) The group of students with
the left brain dominance group have been able to apply the steps to understand the
problem, develop problem solving strategies, implement problem solving
strategies and looking back the process and the. 2) Students with the right brain
domination group have been able to apply the steps to understand the problem,
develop problem solving strategies and implement problem solving strategies.
